Local Edmond Healthcare
Everyone in the U.S. today is interested in healthcare, and this information is not just about local Edmond healthcare and the hospital across the street from Bryant Grove.
This is a source of general information to help you find the best healthcare solutions you can, no matter where you live, for yourself, your family, loved ones and friends. Enjoy life and be well.
Remember
In an emergency you should call 911 or go to the nearest hospital, which for our residents is directly across the street.
Reduce Infection Deaths
According to Dr. Betsy McCaughey, PhD and RID founder, hospital infection kills more people each year in the U.S. than AIDS, breast cancer, and auto accidents combined!
She recommends when we visit someone in the hospital, don’t take them flowers or candy. Take them a container of bleach wipes and clean all the surfaces around their bed including the bed rail, the over-the-bed table, the call button and IV pole.
You just might be saving their life.

Patient Empowerment
VeryWellHealth.com has a full patient empowerment page on what you can learn from doctors rating websites. They discuss what kinds of ratings sites exist, what information you want to know about a doctor, how ratings or rankings are developed, and what the potential problems can be with these rating/ranking websites.
They also have information on how to find a doctor’s medical malpractice history that should not be overlooked.
It’s all a bit long but worthwhile if you want these details.
Compare Care Providers
Many tools are available to help you search, assess and compare physicians and other health professionals, hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies and dialysis facilities so you can make better decisions. This is a good place to start. You’ll also find information on medical specialties, clinical training and foreign languages spoken.
Compare Hospitals
Hospital Compare has information about the quality of care at over 4,000 Medicare-certified hospitals across the country. You can use this service to find and compare nursing homes, hospitals and other providers near you.
Their information can:
- Help you make decisions about where to get your medical care
- Encourage hospitals to improve the quality of care they provide
Hospital Safety Grade
The Leapfrog Group’s Hospital Safety Grade program grades hospitals on their overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors. Their grades are derived from analysis of publicly available data using 28 evidence-based national measures of hospital safety.
Use their online search form to see how they rate your local general hospital. The Wall Street Journal lists them among “Ten ways patients get treated better” in their December, 2012 article found here.
Doctor Reviews
According to their website, Healthgrades is an independent health care ratings company where you can research doctors, hospitals, medical procedures and more.
You can also try RateMDs which is a directory site that includes information and ratings on doctors, hospitals and nursing homes, and where you can enter your own feedback about your personal medical care experiences.
WebMD
WebMD is a grand potpourri of medical and health information literally from A to Z. The website can be a bit overwhelming with all its lists, graphics and busy design, but there is a lot of information available. You can poke around and wade through it or try their search results (with lots of ads).
Electronic Medical Records
Health records are going electronic fast, and hopefully that will enable anyone to change healthcare providers easily if that’s what it takes to receive good care.
Electronic medical records (EMRs) have many improvements over paper records. They are usually better organized than paper records, can eliminate the illegible handwriting doctors are famous for, and provide for storage of far more information. EMRs can also be backed up on- or off-site without much fuss.
Yet even with those advantages, you still need to look out for yourself and your loved ones. It’s your health and theirs at stake.
