Giving Thanks
Thanksgiving Day is coming later this week. It’s on Thursday this year. 🙂 Okay, it’s on Thursday every year, but it’s late in the month of November this year.
I guess just about everybody here in the U.S. knows the history of Thanksgiving Day: The Plymouth colonists (commonly called “pilgrims”), the Indians (specifically the Wampanoag Indians) and their feast together is how the story goes.
It was an autumn harvest feast that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed in 1863, in the middle of the Civil War, a national Day of Thanksgiving to be held on the fourth Thursday in November. In Canada, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday in October. I suppose that means you could celebrate Thanksgiving Day twice each year if you want, and good luck keeping true to you diet if you do.
We just have to watch the evening news to each find much we can be thankful for. Even our neighbors in Moore can hopefully find something to be thankful for. Bryant Grove has suffered hail damage several times over the years, but of course nothing like the devastation that was done by the EF5 tornado that struck Moore in May of this year.
I won’t go into the “business” of being thankful, although we do certainly appreciate our residents and helpful staff. Gratitude, thanks and praise is what we all need in our life as we live it day by day. We hope you have a happy, bountiful and safe Thanksgiving Day and extended weekend.
