We are 22.3 miles from Tinker. Take I-40 west, then north on I-35, exit left at 2nd St., turn right at Bryant. It takes about 28 minutes. Bryant Grove is at 20 South Bryant Avenue, just north of 2nd Street and directly across from the OU Medical Center Edmond.

Tinker Air Force Base has been a crucial part of America's national defense since its creation as a maintenance and supply depot in 1941.

Today, Tinker AFB is home to the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center and several major associate units including the 552nd Air Control Wing, the Navy's Strategic Communications Wing One, the 507th Air Refueling Wing and the 3rd Combat Communications Group. With more than 26,000 military and civilian employees, Tinker is the largest single-site employer in Oklahoma.

Off-Base Housing Preparedness

Tinker AFB is committed to helping first-term Airmen not fall victim to inexperience or poor judgment when moving off base, and we support those efforts 100%. It's no fun to move back into the dorms if you're not financially or mentally prepared to live in off-base housing.

To achieve this goal, the 72nd Civil Engineering Directorate Housing sector holds monthly seminars primarily designed for Airmen with two years of service, who have a year to prepare.

Speakers will offer legal advice, financial planning and guidance regarding safe and crime-free neighborhoods. They also discuss Basic Allowance for Housing issues. Seminars are offered at 1:30 p.m. the fourth Thursday of each month at the A&FRC.

Once Airmen reach the rank of senior airman and have three years of service, they are required by Air Force instruction to move off base to make room for incoming Airmen.

Tinker Air Force Base is named in honor of Major General Clarence L. Tinker of Pawhuska, Oklahoma. General Tinker lost his life while leading a flight of LB-30 "Liberators" on a long-range strike against Japanese forces on Wake Island during the early months of WW II.

The base is currently made up of 5,020 acres with 732 buildings containing 15.5 million square feet of floor space. It includes 136 acres of indoor maintenance area, 254 acres of ramp space, and is comparable to a city with a population of 30,000.
